Garmin announced new VIRB X and VIRB XE cameras with GPS and G-Metrix

Garmin VIRB

Garmin announced the next generation of HD action cameras, VIRB X and VIRB XE. Compact and capable of shooting rich, high-definition, wide-angle footage, VIRB X and XE boast an all-new form factor allowing for more mounting options. Waterproof to 50 meters, the updated camera design is even more rugged, and doesn’t require an external case for underwater shooting. A high-contrast 1” display allows for fast and straightforward camera configuration, and with one-touch controls, users can easily wake the device and start and stop recording with a simple switch

G-Metrix uses the action data recorded by a variety of built in and connected sensors of VIRB X and XE to charge the next action video with more excitement and emotion. With G-Metrix, VIRB X and XE utilise internal sensors like the high-sensitivity GPS, accelerometer and gyroscope, and compatible devices and accessories like an HRM-Run, fēnix 3 multisport watch or Vector power meter to track movements in real time and capture more performance data. Additionally VIRB X and XE are compatible with Bluetooth-enabled OBD tools to capture true vehicle data like speed, RPM and throttle position.

The main difference between VIRB X ($299) and VIRB XE ($399) is the recording resolution/frame rates. The VIRB XE shoots at up to 1440p/30fps or at 1080p with 60fps. The ViIRB X will top out at 1080/30fps or 720p/60fps. Both versions offer slow-motion capture as well as photo bursts at up to 12-megapixels. VIRB XE has a Pro Mode for manual camera controls.
