Ultra Trail Stara Planina is an ultramarathon which is being held in East Serbia next to border with Bulgaria and organized by Skyrunning Serbia. The distances are three: Babin zub SkyTrail 24km 1.300D+, Trail Stara planina “Midžor” 57km 2.850 D+ and Ultra-Trail Stara planina “Kopren” 108km 5.800D+.

I ran the middle distance, you can check my Strava activity. The actual denivelation was ~2200m, not 2850m like the official information. Finishers of the 57km and 108km distances gets points for ITRA – International Trail Running Association i.e. for UTMB raffle. The 57 km “Midžor” course is relatively easy, there are no technical sections, it is a fast track – 11 km ascent after that 33km descent and again some climbing (1000m D+).

The starts of 108km race and 24/57km are at two different places which are 10 km away, but the finish is at one place. For accommodation you have two options: Planinski Dom Šum and Hotel Stara Planina. The start of 108km race is near Šum while the start of 24/57km and finish for all distances are at Hotel Stara Planina. Šum is cheaper to stay but there is a probability to share a room and bathroom with other people, while Hotel Stara Planina is more expensive but it’s a proper hotel and it is at the start/finish (except for 108km start). There are not many options to eat in or around Šum but you can bring your own food. The hotel have a restaurant.
